BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH FOR HERB MARTIN, Ph.D, MFT

Herb Martin

Herb Martin, Ph.D. is the President of the Peak Performance Consulting Group. Dr. Martin has practiced as a staff psychologist, marriage and family therapist, executive coach, and organizational and sport psychology consultant over the last three decades.

He has also been responsible for the design, development, and implementation of several successful programs for athletes, executives, and pro teams. Dr. Martin has consulted to Fortune 100 and 500 companies throughout the United States and has held management positions as an EAP director for a large metropolitan city and a managed care company.

Dr. Martin has served as a consultant to the National Football League as Western Regional Evaluating Clinician for the NFL’s Program for Substances of Abuse since its inception in 1993. Additionally, as part of the NFL’s League wide efforts to ameliorate conduct related incidents among players, Dr. Martin develops and conducts Life Skills programs and trainings on a team basis. Dr. Martin is also the Team Clinician for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dr. Martin is also a consultant to the National Basketball Association where he is network provider to players who suffer from substance abuse disorders. He also conducted trainings for the National Basketball Developmental League and NBA’s Rookie Transition Program, and Dr. Martin has also served as advisor/consultant to NBA/NBPA Player Program departments. Dr. Martin and the Peak Performance Consulting Group have worked with the NCAA and colleges throughout the U.S. providing Leadership and Accountability programs, Life Skills, and consultation to players, coaches, and administrators.

Dr. Martin received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the United States International University.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH FOR ROBERT NIDEFFER

Dr. Nideffer is a psychologist,  and the founder of Enhanced Performance Systems, a company which develops psychological tools, and provides psychological services, designed to help individuals and organizations maximize their potential.  Dr. Nideffer has been consulting to businesses, sports teams, and the military since 1976.  http://www.enhanced-performance.com
Dr. Nideffer received his B.S. degree in psychology from Lewis and Clark College.  He received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Vanderbilt University.  He is professionally licensed and an ABPP Diplomate in clinical psychology.

For twelve years, Dr. Nideffer was a professor, teaching psychological assessment to doctoral level students first at The University of Rochester, and then at the California School of Professional Psychology.  While on the faculty at the University of Rochester, Dr. Nideffer established the psychology departments psycho-educational laboratory which provided performance enhancement and stress management services to the Rochester community (including the Eastman School of Music, and Eastman Kodak, Sybron, and Xerox Corporations).

In 1976, Dr. Nideffer moved to San Diego, California.  Since that time, he has traveled the world providing selection and screening, team building, executive coaching, and performance enhancement services to major corporations, sports organizations, and elite military groups.  He was the psychologist for the U.S. Olympic track and field teams in 1984 and 1988 and has provided consultative services to sports governing bodies around the world.  In 1992, Dr. Nideffer was named by his professional colleagues, one of the top ten sport psychologists in the world for the decade of the 1980’s.

Dr. Nideffer is the author of The Attentional and Interpersonal Style Inventory (TAIS), an assessment device used around the world for selection, screening, team building, and performance enhancement.  He has published over 100 professional articles, and is the author of fifteen books including, The Inner Athlete, How to Put Anxiety Behind You, Attention Control Training, The Ethics and Practice of Applied Sport Psychology, Psyched to Win, Psychological Assessment in Sport, and an interactive multi-media, self-help, CD-Rom titled Focus for Success.  Both The Inner Athlete and The Ethics and Practice of Applied Sport Psychology have been identified as classics in the field.

As the founder of an organization that develops computer software and multi-media tools, and as a consultant providing team building, selection and screening, and performance enhancement services to Olympic Training Centers, Elite Military Groups, and Major Corporations around the world including The Australian Institute for Sport, Nortel, The Italian Olympic Training Center, Prudential Insurance, Sun Life, Navy Seals, General Motors Europe, Lucent Technologies, Magna, Alaris Medical Systems, Solar and Ericsson, and US Special Operations Forces.  Dr. Nideffer knows the problems and pressures created by today's rapidly changing technology and growing global competition.  With these factors in mind, he uses his interviewing and psychological assessment skills, and his knowledge about the relationship between concentration, emotions, and performance, to help elite level performers get the most out of themselves and their teams.
